interlock legislation 2009

WE NEED A SPONSOR FOR THREE BILLS

Bill #1:  MAKE CAMERA INTERLOCKS MANDATORY

Bill #2:    MAKE INTERLOCK GO THROUGH RFP

Bill #3: MAKE MVD THE ONLY ADMINISTRATOR OF INTERLOCK PROGRAMS

The ignition interlock program needs the help and support of every responsible legislator.

CAMERA EQUIPPED interlocks are ready for installation. This would go a long way to stopping drunk drivers from asking sober children and others to blow into their interlocks so that they can drive drunk. We need a bill making camera interlocks MANDATORY. The media is waiting in the wings to see who the legislative heros will be on this issue.

The people of New Mexico would be most grateful to you if you could pass legislation ensuring that the ignition interlock program went through the traditional RFP process when awarded to any service provider.

As we all learned from recent events, the RFP process prevents any suspicion of corruption, "pay-for-play", or bureaucratic empire building resulting in unnecessary costs.

The ignition interlock program has unfortunately been LEFT OUT of the RFP process.

This has resulted in great damage, inefficiencies, and the outright appearance of impropriety. It has also fomented corruption and contributed to lower effectiveness of the program.

Good sources of informaiton on interlocks: Senators Cravens and Griego, and State Representatives K. Martinez and B. Rehm.

This is a Jan. 18th newscast on Channels 2 and 13 in Albuquerque. The point of the newscast is that the judge does NOT think that a video-equipped interlock is in any way superior to a non-camera equipped interlock. Draw your own conclusions.
